In the apartments, we provide a selection of leaflets, maps and guides, together with an expanded version of the information below, including telephone numbers.
The Apartments
Beds and Bedding: The main beds will be made up for you on arrival. Bedding for the sofabeds will be located underneath.
Broadband: The bar downstairs has WiFi, which is provided by Orange. The cost is €10 for three hours.
Arrival & Departure times: Arrival time is after 4.00 p.m. and departure time is 10.00 a.m.
Electricity: The cost of electricity is included in the rental fee. Electric heaters are provided in all apartments and are sufficient to heat rooms adequately. There is no town gas in La Brigue.
Water: The local water is excellent and safe to drink.
Wood burning stoves: Logs are provided most times but are not always available.
General Information
Bank: Credit Agricole or Caisse d’Epargne in Tende.
Bicycle hire: Available in Tende from Maison de la Montagne or City Bike de Tende.
Buses: There are buses that connect St Dalmas, Tende, Casterino, Breil and some of the outlying villages such as Berghe, Libre and Saorge.
Butcher: We have an excellent butcher in the village who will source any particular requirements you may have and will be happy to deliver meat to the apartment before your arrival.
Dentist: Dr Tristani in Tende.
Doctor: There are two in Tende: Dr Ajasse and Dr Vialatte – phone numbers in the apartments.
Emergencies: For emergencies in France, call 18 from a landline or 112 from a mobile.
Launderette: There is a launderette in Tende. Apartment 3 has a washing machine.
Museums: La Maison du Patrimoine, in a Brigue has an excellent museum. Le Musee de Merveilles in Tende is also well worth visiting.
Post Office: There is a post office in La Brigue.
Restaurants: The Pizzeria Brigasque in Place St Martin is simple, cheerful and inexpensive. La Cassolette and the restaurant in the Mirval Hotel are both worth trying when they are open. Otherwise there are good restaurants in Tende and most other villages. For a special occasion, Lu Taz in Limone Piemonte is one of Italy’s finest restaurants. In the mountains, try Chalet le Marmotte above the ski lifts in Limone – owned by an English lady and her Italian ski-instructor husband.
Shops: Right opposite the Apartments is Cedric’s ‘epicerie’. He has freshly baked bread and croissants everyday, together with a limited range of grocery and other items. There are another grocers and a good butcher. Half day in La Brigue is Thursday. There are more general stores in Tende and larger shops are in Cuneo or the coastal towns. There is a huge market in Ventimiglia on Fridays. There is a lovely honey maker and shop (‘Lo Bzusc’) at the entrance to Saorge.
Taxis: Taxi Franck in Tende.
Telephone: There are phone boxes in Place de Nice and Place St Martin. You can buy telephone cards in the Post Office. The Carte Telephonique costs 15 euros and seems to last forever.
Town halls (Maries): Place st Martin in La Brigue and Place Gen. de Gaulle in Tende.
Train: There is a rail station in La Brigue. Trains run from La Brigue to Cuneo, Nice and Ventimiglia. There are only a few services each day, so check timetables. The journeys north of La Brigue and between Breil and Nice are stunning – wonderful scenery and winding tunnels.
